Research

Social groups define who we are and how we view others. The research in my lab examines how people are affected by these social identities and the stereotypes attached to them. We examine social stereotyping from the point of view both of perceivers and those who are targeted by stigmatization. And in much of our work, we aim to harness theory and basic science in psychology to better understand and address inequality created by social biases. Currently, there are three active lines of research that are keeping us busy, although we often have other side projects that crop up based on students’ interests.
